The service took place in the beautiful church of St. Saeran’s in Llanynys deep in the heart of the Vale of Clwyd. Supported by the Lord Lieutenant of Clwyd, Henry Fetherstonehaugh, the outgoing High Sheriff, several members of the Judiciary, family and friends and other local High Sheriffs – Shropshire, Cheshire and Gwynedd– the sun shone and the choir of Cantorion Garmon from St. Garmon’s Church was joined by a harpist, pianist and trumpeter. The service was completely different from my own in that the warrant was read out, and the outgoing High Sheriff gave an account of his year before the formalities began. National Anthems of both England and Wales were sung and a wonderful reception in the gardens of Cerrigllwydion Hall – home of the High Sheriff.
