David was born in 1949 in Birkenhead whilst his father was a medical student at Liverpool University. He followed his father by graduating from Liverpool with a degree in Law and subsequently qualified as a solicitor.
He is married to Pat, a chartered accountant, and they have 3 daughters. Jenny, the oldest, is working in public relations in Manchester and twins, Emily and Alice, have followed their mother into accountancy; both work in London, coincidentally for the same firm.
David is the senior partner of Cullimore Dutton in Chester and has been with the firm for 33 years. He became Under Sheriff of the City of Chester in the mid 1980s and then Under Sheriff for the County of Cheshire in 2004.
David was involved with both of the high profile evictions for the second runway at Manchester Airport. He assisted former Under Sheriff, Randal Hibbert, then a partner with Birch Cullimore, the predecessor firm to Cullimore Dutton. The Deputy Under Sheriff, John Arnold, is also a partner at Cullimore Dutton.
David has served on the HSA Council and is currently President of the Under Sheriffs’ Association. He is a governor of the Queen’s School in Chester.
In years gone by David played cricket, hockey and lacrosse and still manages to play hockey occasionally.
