John was born in Swansea subsequently living in Pembrokeshire and going to school in Monmouth. He then went to Sheffield University and obtained a degree in history.
On leaving University he worked at the Department of Transport for an 18 month period working as Programme Officer on the M25 enquiry in Uxbridge.
John is a Director of Cullimore Dutton Solicitors Limited which is a company formed from a merger of two long standing Chester firms of solicitors namely Birch Cullimore and Mason & Moore Dutton. He has been at Birch Cullimore and Cullimore Dutton for 33 years. He became Under Sheriff for the City of Chester in 2004 and for the County of Cheshire in 2016. He works as a dispute resolution solicitor in property, commercial and employment matters and is also a registered High Court Enforcement Officer registered to enforce Judgments obtained through the High Court.
He is married to Jane an English and Drama Teacher and they and their family have lived in Chester for 35 years.
John is a former President of the Cheshire & North Wales Law Society and is currently Vice Chair of Chester Aid to the Homeless.
He continues to play cricket, with ever decreasing athleticism in the Chester & District Midweek Cricket League.
